I was asked this question from one of my Coachee "Sir good afternoon. First, I often face difficulties managing conflict situations. I believe a more proactive approach—focusing on successful resolution ("doing the operation successfully") rather than just reviewing what went wrong after the fact—would be more effective. I am seeking guidance on how to better help teams focus on the real scenario, understand the root causes, and identify actionable changes for improvement.
Second, I am finding decision-making challenging, particularly when I need to rely on others' input. Delays in gathering consensus or external opinions sometimes makes reaching a timely conclusion difficult. I am looking for strategies to improve my ability to synthesise information and make clear, timely decisions."
My Answer:
"Good Evening.
Thank you for sharing this with such honesty. It takes real leadership maturity to recognise our communication patterns and seek guidance to improve them.
Many professionals face a similar challenge: when facts are presented without emotional alignment, people respond emotionally rather than logically. Effective communication is not just about data; it’s about connection.
Here are a few principles I often share during my coaching sessions:
🔹 Start with alignment, not arguments: Acknowledge the other person’s perspective before presenting your own. It reduces defensiveness and builds trust.
🔹 Use the SBI framework (Situation–Behavior–Impact)It turns conversations from confrontational to collaborative.
🔹 Regulate intensity: Tone, pace, and choice of words make all the difference in how your message is received.
🔹 Disengage gracefully: Make your point respectfully, invite dialogue, and then step back. Credibility grows when communication is mature and balanced.
🔹 Focus on helping, not correcting: People respond better when they feel supported rather than judged.
Real growth begins when we understand not just what we are saying, but how it is landing.
If your organisation or leadership team is looking to build stronger communication, emotional intelligence, or conflict-free collaboration, I’d be happy to support with 1-1 Leadership Coaching and Team Communication Workshops.
